I'm thrilled to share that my book-length manuscript, In the Elevated City, has been selected as a Semifinalist for The Hudson Prize! I'm grateful to the editors & readers at Black Lawrence Press who spent time with my work, & I'm honored to be in such great company.
For the curious: In the Elevated City is a manuscript that I started eight years after Hurricane Katrina tore through the Louisiana & Mississippi Gulf Coast. The poems explore our place in the rapidly shifting natural world, the relationship between humans & the divine, & the isolation--among other traumas--of the loss, grief, & displacement that touched the communities I grew up in. It has been my heartwork for the past seven years, and to know that others connected to it means the world.
Of course, I can't wait to see who is selected as the winner, & I look forward to reading their book when it's out in the world! (Click here to see the full list of Finalists and Semifinalists!)
